Aebo, I do not understand..with your ignorance of the truth then why are you even on this site? You are not being held here nor are you being bound here...you may leave anytime you like...As for the wand and the tools of a true wiccan they are real and they are true. and there are some that believe that they are tools needed for their rituals or spells. Although they are not necessary and considered by some to be a crutch or tool I myself have created a wand from my own energy and know them to be true. and although I do not use it for every ritual or spell I have it. but..If you are not here except to pass off skepticism then what is your point for being here and why are you even wasting our time with you r childish post?

I'm new to a lot of this magic stuff. I've cast love spells and a few curses. I don't know if this works but I live in a really big city where I can't really get tree branches. I have no job and can't afford much, so I make my own stuff usually. I made my wand from a toilet plunger. I know that sounds really stupid, but it's all I had. I took off the rubber part and shaved it down to make a replica of Harry Potter's wand from the movie. Would this work?

This is a wonderful topic. I personally do not have a wand of this nature, instead I went the other route. I picked up a package of doll rods and string, copper tubing to hold a crystal at the end and called it good.

For me this type of wand was more powerful because of the effort it takes to make them. However to each their own. I can say the interesting thing about the wands I and my coven mates make is that the crystals on the ends all feel more powerful when the wands are finally put together. I also have doll rod wand in my bag that has some drawings and rune markings on it that I used for on the fly magick and the wand does not grab anyones attention.

I didn't read the posts after the first one so I don't know whether or not this was mentioned, but having woodwork as a hobby of mine I can say from experience it is far easier and perhaps safer to remove bark with a blade then it is with a wood burner.

The wood burner is good for carving into the bark, such as if you want a line design across it, and especially good for engraving designs, but not so good for stripping any length of wood. Normally, unless you have a very sharp wood burner, the bark simply gets burned onto the wood and not stripped off.

That's just my experience though, use what works best for you. Perhaps you have a method that I haven't tried or a type of burner I haven't used which would make the wood burner more recommendable.

I have a selenite wand, curved into a spiral. The little rose quartz on the hand broke off :( but I never used the wand much anyway. I guess I wasn't as connected as I thought I was.

Personally, I find some tools too cumbersome (and a dead giveaway that I'm practicing magick), so I've adapted to not using them. I'd like to make one out of plum wood (plum trees being my favorite), but I don't know of any around me.

And I agree there is no set way to make a wand; the only rule I would abide by is to ask and thank the tree/source. They are very giving, but you will know if they say no. I also agree on keeping it natural (ie: no plastic, natural glues like sap or rice glue) because I personally feel that manufactured things just don't have the same energy or love from their makers.

My wife and I saw some crystal quartz wands a while back that we are debating on getting.

I should also add the we have a beautiful silver maple tree in front of my mother in laws house that my wife planted 15 years ago. Since then she has not had it trimmed or another and it is a bit over grown and some of the branches are presenting a issue to power lines as well as the drive way. We decided after the fall when the trees go to sleep we are going to have someone come and take off some of the more dangerous limbs and we are going to use part of what is cut for making both wands and staffs. We are debating on putting stains on them and possible taking them to the ren fair next spring and selling them. Or perhaps selling them on the website as silver maple wands are a bit price in books that we have seen.

Now I know many magick users say wait to the tree drops them, however we were informed if we do not come and pay for the tree to get trimmed down my mother in law will have the entire tree cut down. Thus we would rather take out some limbs, use what we can as compared to having the tree get cut down. The tree is a beautiful tree and considering how bit it grow in the last 15 years it would be shame to have it cut down. To my understanding the silver maple tree was planted by my wife the same day her mother and sister planted their trees. The sister tree died quickly and my wifes mothers tree is barely over feet tall while my wifes tree would be higher then 3 story house if that gives you any idea.

In KS every now and then in the winter our trees get locked in ice. When this happens tree limbs fall and damage powerlines, houses and cars. This happened two years ago and my wifes tree lost some limbs but no damage to the house and so forth was made, now however few of the limbs look like they could cause issue if we do not take care fo them now. Again at least we are going to use the limbs, well as much as possible as compared to having them toss out. What we can not use, i think we are going to chop into smaller pieces for friends to use in fire places.

Thank you for pointing this out. I am new to this website but in my short time here I have gathered that there are some users who do not take majick seriously. I know for a fact that majick works and to be flip about it is deleterious to doubters or to those who are dabbling in majick for entertainment. It is important to have respect for this ancient craft; else, negative results occur.

I respect the power of the wand, as well as see some of the potential setbacks. I know that they work beyond a shadow of a doubt, due to the little "trick" that one of my old wiccan friends used on me. I myself, though, and a druid. While wands are not forbidden, and sometimes even encouraged, I have always felt a personal tug towards staffs, and home made blades (bone/petrified wood blades and stuff).
There is one question I have though. How do you get stuff like feathers or the like into the wand? Do you split it then bind it back, carve out a hole, or what?
