Is it possible that the Necronomicon of H.P. Lovecraft was based on a book of shadows based solely demons and their summoning rites and rituals?

There is some remote possibility, though it would be solely H. P. Lovecraft's own personal gnosis, and in no way verifiable.

There are people who claim to work with the characters in his fictional books, though they are more often Chaotes, working with archetypes rather than with external entities.

and the thing about it being written about the ''mad arab'' Abul Alhazred? could that be the name of the person that taught him about spirits?

I think it's more like how the movie 'Fargo' claims to be based on a true story, when it is a total work of fiction.

Lovecrafts Necronomicon is entirely a work of fiction and Lovecraft stated that it was so. There never was a Mad Arab who gave him a book. He made that all up as a basis for his stories.

H.P.Lovecraft stories are base on his dreams. They are mix with fiction and non-fiction sinceDagon is an actual god. The rest can be seen asegregores.

Oh, and to add something else here. The actual Book of the Dead which does in fact exist, was something out of the religion of the ancient Egyptians. It was a book about how the soul of the dead could safely navigate from this life to the afterlife. It was never about summoning demons.
